Bailey Akers LLMSW

She/Her/Hers

Hi there, I’m Bailey. After growing up in the Greater Lansing area, I began my social work education at Grand Valley State University where I earned my Bachelor of Social Work and found my calling to public service for silenced populations. I continued my education at Michigan State University where I completed my Master of Social Work and Evidence-Based Trauma Treatment Certificate program to learn the deeper and wider impacts of the things that happen in our lives. I stayed at MSU by becoming student support staff, and am a Spartan through and through!

My professional experience includes working with ranging populations experiencing the varying impacts of traumatic experiences. While I have worked with inmates, young adults, families, and child survivors, my clinical focus lies in working with clients from ages 5-16 and their families after sexual violence, abuse, or other traumas. Caregivers are often the drivers of children beginning therapy, and they can expect to be engaged and learn with their child as part of my clinical process.

I primarily utilize and am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT),
which is a structured model of therapy for children experiencing post-traumatic stress symptoms. Depending on the needs of the client, I implement aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Art Therapy, and Play Therapy. I always try to incorporate my client’s interests and passions into their experience in therapy, whether it be painting, dinosaurs, T Swift’s music, or something else that brings them joy. My goal is to make those who seek self-improvement, healing, or positive change in their lives feel safe and seen in my space. I welcome families of all makeups into my space.

When I’m not at work, you can find me working on a quilting project or other crafty adventure, walking my (loud and excitable) dog, Opal, or cooking something yummy for Sunday family dinner. Is it you or your child’s first time considering therapy? There are no silly questions here- reach out if you’d like to discuss therapy or have questions about if it is the right fit for you.
